Hotels in Berlin Germany

Hotels in Berlin offer wonderful accommodations in a destination nicknamed “Grey City”.  Known for its museums, theaters, architecture, plazas, squares, parks, restaurants, beer gardens, shopping malls, night clubs, fashion and chocolate, Berlin is found near Germany’s northeastern border, about 180 miles southeast of the second-largest German city, Hamburg. Ultimately flowing through central Berlin, the Spree river rises in the southerly Lusatian Highlands, forms the UNESCO biosphere reserve-area’s Spree Forest (a large inland delta about 60 miles southeast of Berlin), and then flows through Lake Schwielochsee before entering the city. To Berlin’s immediate west/northwest stretch a number of national forests and nature preserves, including Grunewald (lakes and ponds, hiking and mountain biking trails), Kingswood with Havel Lake & Seeburg Agricultural Landscape (forest, meadows, wetlands, lakes), Tegel Forest (hiking trails, deer, wild boar) and Spandauer Forest (loop trail, woods, wetlands, horse pastures), as well as Sanssouci Palace. Slightly farther northward in Brandenburg are found Naturpark Barnim (national reserve – large forests, woods, bogs, moon ponds, wildlife habitats), along with Memorial and Museum Sachsenhausen. Within the city, main attractions include Alexanderplatz (plaza), Brandenburg Gate (historical place), Checkpoint Charlie (historical landmark), Berlin Zoological Garden (zoo), Potsdamer Platz (plaza), KaDeWe – Kaufhaus des Westens (shopping mall), East Side Gallery (memorial), Mall of Berlin (shopping mall), Memorial to the Murdered Jews of Europe, Berliner Fernsehturm (tower), Berlin Wall Memorial (memorial park), Topography of Terror (history museum), Berlin Cathedral Olympiastadion Berlin (stadium), Uber Arena (event venue), Pergamonmuseum (history museum), Tierpark Berlin (animal park), Charlottenburg Palace (castle), Tiergarten (state park), Mauerpark (park), Europa-Center (shopping mall), Madame Tussauds Berlin (wax museum), Friedrichstadt-Palast (performing arts theater), Gardens of the World (park), Aquarium Berlin, Dussmann das KulturKaufhaus (book store), Hard Rock Café Berlin, Markthalle Neun (market), Jewish Museum Berlin, German Spy Museum, Volkspark Friedrichshain (park), EASTGATE Berlin (shopping mall), Gropius Passagen (shopping mall), Spandau Citadel (fortress), WILMA Shoppen (shopping mall), Futurium (museum), Berliner Philharmonie (concert hall), Tempodrom Berlin (live music venue), Park am Gleisdreieck (state park), Computer Games Museum (technology museum), Zollpackhof (restaurant / beer garden), Reichstag Building (government building), Linden-Centre (shopping mall), Café am Neuen See (beer garden), Monbijoupark (park), Zoo Palast (movie theater), Coccodrillo (Italian restaurant), Humboldt Forum (art museum), Theater des Westens (performing arts theater), Kulturbrauerei (event venue), Admiralspalast (performing arts theater), UCI Luxe East Side Gallery (movie theater), Berlin Story Bunker (museum), Tränenpalast (history museum), Schleusenkrug (beer garden), Museum für Naturkunde (natural history museum), Prater Beer Garden (beer garden), Velodrom (concert hall), Berlinische Galerie (modern art museum), Deutsche Oper Berlin (opera house), Maxxim (night club), Neue Nationalgalerie (modern art museum), Wintergarten Berlin (performing arts theater), DARK MATTER (modern art museum), Urban Nation (art museum), Märchenbrunnen (fountain), KitKatClub (night club), YAAM (night club), Soda Club Berlin (night club) and Beach 61 (beach volleyball court). Interestingly though not coincidentally, many of Berlin’s most popular and best attractions can be found in its central-to-western sections. Berlin’s professional football clubs are 1. FC Union Berlin, who play at Stadion An der Alten Försterei on the city’s far-southeast side, and Hertha BSC, who play at the aforementioned Olympiastadion Berlin on the city’s far-west side. Berlin’s main airport is Berlin Brandenburg Airport, while its subway system is the U-Bahn. The city’s outer ring road, or orbital motorway, is Bundesautobahn 10, which, like most of the German autobahn, has no speed limit and minimal police presence. Newly home to Uber Arena (formerly Mercedes-Benz Arena), Berlin naturally has wide-ranging Uber rideshare service, which encompasses the airport. When traveling to Grey City, keep in mind that there might be lots of cyclists on the road. Dress codes vary amongst districts, so be sure to check an individual establishment’s dress code policies beforehand. Open all night, Berlin night clubs are known to get wild. Cash is still widely used, and when service is good, tipping is customary at around 10%. In Berlin, cars travel on the right-hand side of the road, currency is the Euro, and the drinking age is 18 years old. Top events include IFA Berlin, Berlin Art Week, Berlinale, Berlin Fashion Week, Festival of Lights, Long Night of Museums, Berlin Marathon, Berlin Beer Week eat! Berlin, The Champions Burger, Cheese Berlin, JazzFest Berlin, Musikfest Berlin, C2C Germany, Lollapalooza, Citadel Music Festival, Melt Festival, CTM Festival, Karneval der Kulturen, Transmediale, Berlin AlonalNation of Gondwana and Pop Kultur.  Hotels in Berlin are some of Central Europe’s best accommodations. Before we get to hotels in Berlin, let’s take a look at some more background information on the area to help you along the way.

Human settlements are estimated to have existed in the Berlin-area since around 60,000 BC, with a deer mask being discovered that dates to around 9,000 BC. From 2,000 BC to the 7th century, it is thought, respectively, that the area had been inhabited by the Lusatian culture, Germanic tribes, Semnones, Burgundians, Hevelli and Sprevane. As part of the Holy Roman Empire’s Margraviate of Brandenburg (1157AD-1806), the region came under German rule starting in the 12th century. Albert the Bear founded Brandenburg circa 1157. In Berlin Mitte, remnants of a 1280 AD house foundation have been excavated, with Berlin itself thought to have been founded in 1237. The area’s two main trade routes, the Holy Roman Empire’s Via Imperii along with an eastern-reaching route from Bruges to Novgorod, contributed to the city’s “staple right”, or right to hold a regular market, which either forced a merchant to make all stops along a prescribed tollway route, or pay a trade taxation to avoid a staple right city. The Berlin-area towns of Spandau and Köpenick formed an alliance in 1307. Electors of Brandenburg, kings of Prussia and German emperors, respectively, the House of Hohenzollern ruled in Berlin from the late 11th century to 1918. Frederick II Irontooth, starting in 1448, constructed the Royal Palace, which first became a royal residence in 1486, when John II, posthumously named “John Cicero”, came to power. Berlin electors, and the city itself, officially became Lutheran in 1539 following Berlin-Cölln’s loss as a free Hanseatic League city. Between 1618 and 1648, the Thirty Years’ War took a heavy toll on Berlin, with a third of its houses being damaged or destroyed, and half of its population being decimated. Beginning in 1640, Frederick William initiated a policy to promote immigration to, and religious tolerance in, Berlin. Thereafter, following a Huguenot immigration, approximately 30 percent of Berlin’s population had become French by the year 1700, with additional immigrants arriving from Bohemia, Poland, and Salzburg. The Kingdom of Prussia, in 1701, formed out of a personal union between the Margraviate of Brandenburg and the Duchy of Prussia. At this time, Frederick III, Elector of Brandenburg crowned himself King Frederick I in Prussia. Through a successful attempt to centralize power, King Frederick I replaced Königsberg (presently Kalingrad, Russia) with Berlin as the new Kingdom of Prussia’s capital city. Berlin merged with the four cities of Cölln, Friedrichswerder, Friedrichstadt and Dorotheenstadt in 1709. Frederick II, or “Frederick the Great “, in 1740 came to power and saw both a period of Enlightenment and the Seven Years’ War. Napoleon Bonaparte, after a victory in the War of the Fourth Coalition between France and Prussia, in 1806 marched into Berlin, though granted it self-government, with the city becoming part of the new Province of Brandenburg circa 1815. During the 19th century, the Industrial Revolution expanded the city’s economy and population. Germany’s main railway hub and economic center, Berlin and its suburban areas grew, and the city became the newly founded German Empire‘s capital in 1871. The Berlin city district separated from Brandenburg in 1881. Early in the 20th century, German Expressionism was strong in the city. The Weimar Republic, with Berlin remaining its capital, was proclaimed following the First World War. The Roaring Twenties, a time of prosperity particularly in the Western world, was also a period of economic uncertainty in Berlin, a place where Albert Einstein lived from 1914-1933, and during which time he received the 1921 Nobel Prize for Physics. Inspired by architecture that he had experienced in Vienna, Adolf Hitler had grand architectural designs planned for Berlin, which ultimately were never fulfilled. Between 1933 and 1939, about 80,000 (or half) of Berlin’s Jewish population emigrated from the city. The Summer Olympics were held in Berlin circa 1936, at which time the Olympiastadion was built. In Berlin on November 9, 1938, Kristallnacht, also known as “Night of Broken Glass” and “November pogroms”, prompted largely by the assassination of German diplomat Ernst vom Rath by Polish-Jewish, Welmar Germany expatriate Herschel Grynszpan in Paris, resulted in Jewish structures being damaged or destroyed, at least 91 deaths and thousands of the city’s Jews being imprisoned in the nearby Sachsenhausen concentration camp. Multiple Nazi prisons and camps, holding peoples from various European countries as well as Allied POWs, existed in Berlin throughout World War II. From 1943-45, and particularly during the 1945 Battle of Berlin, Allied air raids resulted in large parts of Berlin being destroyed alongside heavy civilian casualties. Following the Second World War, Berlin was divided into West (United States, United Kingdom and France) and East (Soviet Union), with all four “Allies” sharing administrative responsibilities. One of the first international crises of the Cold War was the Soviet Union’s Berlin Blockade, prompted by the Western Allies’ introduction of the Deutsche Mark into West Berlin, which blocked the Western Allies’ access to railways, roads and canals under Western control. Berlin Airlift, from the Summer of 1948 through the Fall of 1949, was a feat carried out by American and British air forces, during which time over 250,000 flights dropped up to 12,941 tons of supplies (food and fuel) per day onto West Berlin.  In 1949, the Federal Republic of Germany was founded in West Germany, and the Marxist–Leninist German Democratic Republic was proclaimed in East Germany. Naturally, this division increased Cold War tensions further. The Berlin Wall was planned to be built around West Berlin starting in 1961, which led to a US and Soviet tank standoff at Checkpoint Charlie, an infamous Berlin Wall crossing-point between East and West Berlin during the Cold War. On June 26, 1963, just 3 months before his assassination, President John F. Kennedy, in West Berlin, gave his Ich bin ein Berliner speech, which renounced Communism. A Four-Power agreement, guaranteeing access to and from West Berlin, was met in 1971 between East and West Berlin foreign ministers. On June 12, 1987, President Ronald Reagan gave a speech at Brandenburg Gate in West Berlin, infamously calling on Soviet General Secretary Mikhail Gorbachev to “tear down this wall.” The opening of the Iron Curtain on August 19, 1989, followed by the Berlin Wall’s destruction on November 9, 1989, naturally were causes of great rejoice amongst the German people. Following the Cold War, Berlin experienced significant urban development, and on June 18, 1994, soldiers from the United States, France and Britain marched in a Berlin parade to commemorate the reunification of the city.

Home to over 3.8 million “Berliners”, Berlin is Germany’s capital and largest city. The European Union’s second-most populous city behind London, Berlin produced a total GDP of €147 billion in 2018. The city’s economy is dominated by the service sector, with about 85% of companies conducting business through services. Over 30 million tourists per year visit Grey City. Along with Hamburg and Bremen, Berlin is a German Stadtstaaten, or city-state, while also being 1 of 16 federal states. Spanning 110-acres and colored with around 22,000 different plant species, Botanischer Garten is one of the world’s largest botanical gardens. Some of Central Europe’s top-rated Michelin restaurants can be found in Berlin. The city’s coat of arms displays a bear, and is thus an example of canting arms. Home to a temperate climate, Berlin experiences generally mild summers and winters, with July/August high temperatures in the mid-to-upper 70s degrees Fahrenheit, and December/January highs in the mid-to-upper 30s. Additional points of interest include Berlin Palace, Bellevue Palace, Konzerthaus Berlin, Museum Island, Pergamon Museum, Alte Nationalgalerie, Egyptian Museum of Berlin, Rotes Rathaus (town hall), Victory Column, Gendarmenmarkt, Potsdam Square, Breitscheidplatz, The New Church, French Cathedral, Kaiser Wilhelm Memorial Church, St. Hedwig’s Cathedral, Berlin Hauptbahnhof, Berlin Potsdamer Platz and Humboldt University of Berlin. Popular foods include sauerbraten (Germany’s national dish, a traditional, heavily marinated meat roast, usually beef), bratwurst (pork or veal link sausage), schnitzel (tenderized, breaded, fried, thin slice of meat, typically pork), kassler (cured, slightly smoked cut of pork), eisbein (corned ham hock), buletten (German hamburgers), königsberger klopse (German meatballs), currywurst (fast food dish, a steamed, fried, spicy sausage), döner kebab (Turkish, similar to shawarma and gyros), fried veal liver, roast goose (Christmas-time), spätzle (egg noodles), kartoffelpuffer (German potato pancakes), senfeier (German eggs in mustard sauce), pretzels, pfannkuchen (German pancakes), Berliner pfannkuche (doughnut), rote grütze (sweet fruit dish), schwarzwälder kirschtorte (Black Forest cake), apfelstrudel (apple strudel), chocolate and ice cream. Drinks are lager beer (pilsner), wheat/sour beer (Berliner Weisse), craft beer, Schnapps, Halb und Halb (orange bitter liquor), ayran (Turkish yogurt drink), black tea, fruit tea and mineral water. Good to know is that “Ein Absacker” means the last drink before going home, or nightcap. Excited perhaps by some more background information on the area. we’re ready for hotels in Berlin that will help make for an unforgettable experience.

Hotels in Barcelona

Barcelona Penthouse Rental

Hotels in Barcelona offer excellent accommodations in a city nicknamed “Barna”. Known for its medieval and modernista architecture, museums, churches, shopping malls, Michelin-starred restaurants, beaches, parks, good weather, fashion, nightlife and football, Barcelona is located on Spain’s northeastern shoreline in Catalonia (a northeastern Spain autonomous community). About half-way between the  Catalonian cities of Girona (northerly) and Terragona (southerly), Barcelona, the Catalonia region’s capital, is bounded by Parc Natural de la Serra de Collserola (natural park – cycling, birdwatching, historic sites, themed / guided walks) to its immediate northwest, Parc Agrari del Baix Llobregat (nature preserve – fruit orchards, seasonal artichoke fields) to its immediate southwest, and the Mediterranean Sea to its immediate east. Within the city, major attractions include Basílica de la Sagrada Família (Gaudi 1880s Basilica), Park Güell (park / mosaic buildings / sculptures / museum), Plaça de Catalunya (plaza), Spotify Camp Nou (FC Barcelona stadium), Casa Batlló (historical landmark – dragon-roofed apartment block / museum by architect Antoni Gaudi), La Pedrera – Casa Milà (historical landmark – art nouveau building / exhibitions / concerts, by Gaudi), Arc de Triomf (monument), Ciutadella Park (1800s park – zoo, boating lake, museums, walking trails), Westfield La Maquinista (shopping mall), Cathedral of Barcelona (Gothic cathedral), Montjuïc Castle (17th century fortress / prison / military museum), Recinte Modernista de Sant Pau (historical place / modernista hospital / Moorish pavilions), Centro Comercial Splau (shopping mall), Columbus Monument (memorial), Palau de la Música Catalana (Art nouveau concert hall), L’illa Mall Diagonal (shopping mall), Gran Via 2 (shopping mall), Tibidabo (amusement park), Westfield Glòries Mall (shopping mall), CosmoCaixa Museum of Science (museum),  Mercat de Sant Antoni (fresh food market), Museu Nacional d’Art de Catalunya (Palatial art museum), Picasso Museum Barcelona (Medieval mansions / Picasso museum), Palau Sant Jordi (indoor arena), El Corte Inglés Diagonal (shopping mall), Palau Güell (Gaudi modernist mansion / museum), Telefèric de Montjuïc (mountain cable car), Lluís Companys Olympic Stadium (1992 Olympics stadium), El Corte Inglés Cornellà (shopping mall), MUHBA Turó de la Rovira (local history museum), Centre Comercial Finestrelles (shopping mall), CaixaForum Barcelona (art nouveau textile factory / cultural center), Casa Vicens Gaudí (Antoni Gaudi museum), Parc del Laberint d’Horta (Neoclassical park / cypress tree maze), Museu d’Art Contemporani de Barcelona (contemporary art museum), La Esquinica (Tapas bar), Fundació Joan Miró (modern art museum), Parc de Can Mercader (park), L’Auditori (auditorium / symphony orchestra venue), Stage Front Stadium (RCD Espanyol stadium), Sala Apolo (disco club), Fira Barcelona Gran Via (exhibition and trade center),  Barceloneta Beach (Barcelona Beach), Parc Central de Nou Barris (park), Parc del Mirador del Poble-sec (park), Tibidabo Funicular (tourist attraction), Parc del Guinardó (park), Plaça de les Glòries Catalanes (plaza), Casino Barcelona (casino), Parc de la Pegaso (park), Parc Fluvial del Besòs (park), Malalts de Festa (disco club), Parc del Turó (park), Barcelona Botanical Garden (Mediterranean botanical garden), Pont del Petroli (pier), Can Cortada (Catalonian restaurant),  Monastery of Pedralbes (Gothic monastery), Monumental (historic bullring / concert venue) and La Madurada (restaurant). Winners of 22 European / worldwide titles, and holders of multiple title records, FC Barcelona plays at the aforementioned Spotify Camp Nou on the city’s west side. Barcelona’s main airport is Josep Tarradellas Barcelona-El Prat Airport, which is located on the south side. Barna’s metro train system runs on a network of 11 rail lines. Good to know is that Uber rideshare is operational in Barcelona, and does encompass the airport. A cruise line destination, Barcelona is home to a cruise terminal that is located conveniently close to city center. Just north of the cruise terminal is the 2.5-mile long, golden sand Barcelona Beach, also known as Barceloneta Beach. On Barcelona Beach, always keep an eye on your personal belongings, do not buy drinks from anyone, and be mindful not to step on any sea urchins. Also good to know in Barcelona is that the area has its own language known as the Catalan language. Of course, Spanish is also spoken widely, and English is moderately understood. In summertime, Barcelona can get crowded. About 180 free public WiFi hotspots are found throughout the city, with WiFi access extending to beach areas. On Sundays, many shops shut down in Barca. Generally, the city’s inhabitants are quite friendly, though it’s entirely possible that some residents might be unwelcoming to tourists. Take care not to disturb the daily siesta (afternoon nap). Dinnertime can be from 9-11:30 pm, with clubs often staying open until 5-6 am. In Barcelona, currency is the Euro, the drinking age is 18 years old and cars travel on the right-hand side. Top events include Epiphany, Saint George’s Day, Festes de La Merce, Sonar Festival, Primavera Sound Festival, Spannabis, Guitar BCN Festival, Spanish Grand Prix, Barcelona Wine Week, Grec Festival and Festes de Santa Eulàlia. Hotels in Barcelona are some of Spain’s best accommodations. Before we get to hotels in Barcelona, let’s take a look at some more background information on the area to help maximize your experience.

Although Barcelona’s pre-history is largely unknown, tombs and dwellings have been discovered that date to pre-5000 BC. Two legends point to either mythological Hercules or Carthaginian General Hamilcar Barca, Hannibal’s father, as being the city’s founder. Of course, the latter legendary founder holds more merit, though neither have been proven. At the foot of Montjuïc hill, 3rd century BC coins, along with an Iberian script referencing the name Bárkeno, have been found. Around 15 BC, the Romans established a military camp in the area and set up The Roman Forum near present-day Plaça de Sant Jaume, which remains Barcelona’s, as well as surrounding Catalonia’s, administrative center to this day. In the early 5th century, the city was conquered by Germanic Visigoths, who subsequently were overrun by the Middle Eastern Umayyad Caliphate in the early 8th century. Louis the Pious, King of the Franks and Charlemagne’s son, conquered the city from the Umayyad Caliphate following his Carolingian army’s 801 AD siege of Barcelona. Indeed, the city changed hands dramatically near the start of Anno Domini. Following Barcelona’s sacking, and most of the city’s population either being killed or enslaved, by Muslim Arab Andalusi military leader Almanzor in 985, a dynastic union formed between Aragon and the County of Barcelona circa 1137. The marriage of Ramon Berenguer IV and Petronilla of Aragon bore Alfonso II of Aragon, whose territories would develop into the Crown of Aragon (13th-17th centuries). At the height of its power, the Crown of Aragon controlled eastern Spain, parts of southern France, the Balearic Islands, Sicily, Corsica, Sardinia, Malta and parts of Greece. Up until the 15th century, Barcelona was the leading slave trade center of the Crown of Aragon. Likely Europe’s oldest central bank, arising from necessities of the state, the Taula de canvi de Barcelona was established in 1401. Aragon and Castille’s royal lines were united in 1469 with the marriage of Ferdinand II and Isabella I. America’s colonization reduced the financial importance of Mediterranean trade, and Madrid became the center of Spain’s political power around that time. Reapers’ War, or the Catalan Revolt, occurring in Catalonia from 1640-1659 between The Principality of Catalonia and Habsburg Spain, resulted in a Catalan defeat along with the Treaty of the Pyrenees, a part of which saw Spain ceding Northern Catalonia to France. During the War of Spanish Succession, the 1705 siege of Barcelona between Pro-Bourbon Spain and England, the Dutch Republic and Pro-Habsburg Spain resulted in Pro-Bourbon Spain’s entire garrison being captured.  Montjuïc Castle, which had established out of a fortress in 1694, was captured by the British during the 1705 siege. Again during the Napoleonic Wars, the castle was captured, this time by the French Army but without a shot ever being fired, as the troops guarding the castle were ordered not to fight the French.  Following the Napoleonic Wars, industrialization aided Barcelona, though the city also struggled with population density and the accompanying diseases. Urban planner and civil engineer Ildefons Cerdà, considered the founder of modern town planning as a discipline, proposed a solution to the city’s population density problem, a new district called Eixample. Although not entirely realized, Eixample would prove a fine example, as it resulted in the demolition of the city walls, along with an expansive implementation of a street grid, wide streets to allow clean air, gardens at the center of each street block, smooth-flowing traffic and broader sunlight. Octagonal superblocks with chamfered corners for better visibility remain helpful to this day.  Following Catalonia’s resistance to Francisco Franco’s Nationalists during the Spanish Civil War, and as a result of a Nationalist victory, Catalonian autonomous institutions were abolished and the use of the Catalonian language in public was suppressed. Under Francoist Spain from 1939 to 1975, Barcelona remained Spain’s second largest city and saw both industrialization and prosperity, with an influx of workers from Spain’s poorer regions contributing to rapid urbanization. Barcelona’s hosting of the 1992 Summer Olympics provided the city with an economic jolt. Also, the 1992 Olympics was cause for the demolition of industrial buildings along the sea-front, and a replacement with 2 miles of beach. Barcelona Beach, naturally, would boost tourism going forward.

Spain’s second-most populous city behind Madrid, Barcelona is positioned between the mouths of the Llobregat and Besòs rivers. Home to over 1.6 million “Barcelonans” (native Barcelonans are known as “Catalans”), Barcelona ranks in the European Union’s top-5 cities in terms of gross GDP. One of the Mediterranean Sea’s largest metropolises, Barca harbors the Port of Barcelona, which is Europe’s busiest passenger port. Norwegian Cruise Line, Celebrity Cruises and Carnival Cruises are a few examples of cruise lines that operate through the Port of Barcelona. 5.5 million international visitors traveled to Barcelona in 2011 compared to 12.4 million in 2022.  Home to eight UNESCO World Heritage Sites, Barca boasts some of the world’s most amazing spectacles by way of Catalan modernista architecture. Architect of Barcelona’s most incredible art nouveau and modernista buildings, Antoni Gaudí lived in Barcelona from 1868 until his death in 1926 aged 73. The University of Barcelona, one of Spain’s oldest universities, was established in 1450. About sixty parks and seven beaches can be experienced throughout the city. Barcelona summers are warm/hot and average in the high 70s degrees Fahrenheit, while winters are mild at around 53 degrees. Rain occurs only about 78 days per year. Additional points of interest include Palau de la Música Catalana (concert hall), Gran Teatre del Liceu (performing arts theater), Palau Nacional (art museum), Palau de la Generalitat de Catalunya (historic palace / government center), Torre Glòries (business center), World Trade Center Barcelona, Temple Expiatori del Sagrat Cor (Catholic church), Venetian Towers (monument), La Rambla (street), La Barceloneta (neighborhood), Port Olimpic (marina) and Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya (racecourse). Local foods include  Canelons (a type of lasagna), Escudella i Carn d’Olla (meat and vegetable stew), Fricandó (beef stew with mushrooms), Faves a la Catalana (fava bean dish), Ànec amb peres (duck with pears), Pa amb Tomàque (bread with tomato) and Patatas Bravas (quartered potatoes and paella). Popular drinks are Cava (sparkling white wine), Vermouth, Sangria, Leche de Pantera (condensed milk, gin and water) and beer. With some background information on the area, we’re ready for hotels in Barcelona that are sure to inspire.
