Hotels in Cayman Islands

Hotels in Cayman Islands offer wonderful accommodations in a destination also known as “The Caymans”. Known for its 7-mile beach, turquoise waters, white sand, parks, ponds, bays, points, waterfront restaurants, snorkeling, scuba diving, sport fishing, endangered iguanas, seabirds, red-footed boobies, sea turtles and stingrays, Cayman Islands is located 272 miles westerly of both Cuba and Jamaica. A British Overseas Territory, the Cayman Islands consist of 3 islands, Grand Cayman (largest), Cayman Brac and Little Cayman (smallest). Grand Cayman main attractions include Cayman Turtle Centre (wildlife park), Camana Bay (retail/entertainment district), Peppers Bar and Grill (Caribbean restaurant), Stingray City Cayman Islands (tour operator), Tukka East End (restaurant), Cracked Conch Restaurant & Macabuca Tiki Bar, Casanova Restaurant (Italian restaurant), Cayman Crystal Caves (tourist attraction), Seven Mile Beach (coral-sand, snorkeling, swimming, resorts, bars), Smith’s Barcadere (sandy cove, snorkeling, picnic tables, showers, restrooms), Coccoloba Bar (Mexican restaurant), Governors Beach (white-sand, snorkeling, picnicking), Queen Elizabeth II Botanic Park (wildlife park), Lobster Pot (seafood restaurant), Pedro St James (tourist attraction), Cayman Spirits Co. (brewery), Czech Inn Grill (restaurant), Tillies (restaurant), Bàcaro (restaurant), Calypso Grill Cayman (seafood restaurant), Spotts Public Beach, Ristorante Pappagallo (restaurant), Cayman Islands National Museum (museum), Starfish Point (tourist attraction), The National Gallery of the Cayman Islands (art museum), Cemetery Beach (long-sandy, snorkeling, beach glass, picnics, shady trees) and Cayman Islands Brewery Ltd (brewery). Cayman Brac places of interest are Pioneer Bakery, Brac Scuba Shack (dive shop), Cayman Brac Lighthouse (tourist attraction), Bat Cave (tourist attraction) and Great Cave (tourist attraction), while Little Cayman is home to Point Of Sand (beach pavilion), Hungry Iguana Restaurant and Seahorse Boutique & Coffee Shop. Cayman Islands’ main airport is Owen Roberts International Airport (ORIA). Cayman Airways is the only airline that operates between Grand Cayman and Cayman Brac, and there is no ferry service. Probably the best way to get around Grand Cayman is by rental car, with Budget of Grand Cayman, Europcar Grand Cayman and Firefly Rental Car Grand Cayman being the airport’s best car rental options. Named after rum barrels that once washed up along its shoreline, Rum Point is one of the Caribbean’s most picturesque beaches/snorkeling areas. A popular and secluded recreational spot, Stingray City is a series of shallow sandbars in Grand Cayman’s North Sound, where those brave enough may snorkel, and interactive, with southern stingrays. Starfish Point, home to shallow-water starfish, is in the vicinity of Rum Point. When visiting Grand Cayman, keep in mind that relative to other Caribbean getaways, The Caymans is a bit more expensive. If you are seeking an energetic nightlife scene, then Cayman Islands is probably not the best choice. However, if you are a family, a group looking for a more laid-back getaway, or one seeking an outstanding scuba diving adventure (examples), then The Caymans is right up your alley. Naturally, a nice pair of sandals, along with sunscreen, are good items to pack. In Cayman Islands, cars travel on the left-hand side of the road, currency is the Cayman Islands Dollar (KYD) and the drinking age is 18 years old. USDs are also accepted readily. Top events include Taste of Cayman, Cayman Cocktail Week, Pirates Week Festival, Little Cayman Mardi Gras, Cayman Islands Jazz Fest, Anchor & Den Express, Cayman Islands Orchid Show, Cayfest and Cayman Carnival Batabano. Hotels in Cayman Islands are some of the Caribbean’s best accommodations. Before we get to hotels in Cayman Islands, let’s take a look at some more background information on the area to help maximize your experience.

A lack of archaeological evidence suggests that prior to European arrival, Cayman Islands was uninhabited. During his final voyage to the Americas, Christopher Columbus is thought to have been the first European to sight the islands on May 10, 1503. Columbus named the new islands “Las Tortugas” in honor of the large turtle population discovered there. In turn, the turtles were hunted to near-extinction. Also present on the islands were caimans, a type of alligatoroid. Thus, the islands were referred to as “Caimanas” or “Caymanes”, and eventually were so-named. Following Columbus, no immediate colonization ensued. However, a variety of settlers arrived on the islands such as pirates, Cromwell deserters and shipwrecked sailors. Legendary pirate Blackbeard, whose real name was Edward Teach, was known to operate in Cayman Islands waters. As legend goes, treasure buried by Blackbeard still rests somewhere in a Cayman Brac cave. In 1586, Sir Francis Drake visited the islands briefly. Grand Cayman’s first permanent inhabitant, Isaac Bodden, was born on the island sometime around 1661. Bodden was the grandson of an original settler, who is thought to be one of Cromwell’s deserters involved in the British capture of Jamaica from Spain circa 1655. The 1670 Treaty of Madrid resulted in England’s formal control of Cayman Islands and Jamaica. During the 1730s, a permanent English-speaking population, along with the introduction of slaves by way of Scottish colonial administrator and governor of Jamaica Robert Hunter, appeared. A famous event in Cayman Islands’ history was the Wreck of the Ten Sail, an East End shipwreck that occurred on February 8, 1794. During the shipwreck, Caymanians rescued crews from ten merchant ships to include HMS Convert. In 1802, the islands’ first census tallied a total population of 933 on Grand Cayman, with 545 being slaves. The British Parliament’s Slavery Abolition Act in 1833 abolished slavery in the Cayman Islands. A dependency of the Crown Colony of Jamaica, Cayman Islands was officially declared on June 22, 1863. Cayman Islands became a separate Crown colony following Jamaica’s independence as a Commonwealth realm. In 1952, Owen Roberts International Airport opened, and a tourism boom ensued. Following Jamaica’s Independence in 1962, Cayman Islands came under direct British rule, though the islands historically have been a tax-exempt destination. In 1972, a new constitution was written, and Cayman Islands was granted a large degree of internal autonomy. Hurricane Ivan caused 2 deaths and $4.61 billion in damages on Cayman Islands in 2004.

Home to around 88,000 “Caymanians”, Cayman Islands is the largest (by population) self-governing British Overseas Territory. Over 100 square miles in total area, the territory is part of the Western Caribbean zone and Greater Antilles. The Cayman Islands’ government is a Parliamentary dependency under a constitutional monarchy, meaning that is does not possess full political independence or sovereignty as a sovereign state. Cayman Islands’ capital, George Town, has a population of around 40,000. Around 70% of the islands’ population identifies as Christian. Naturally, English is the territory’s official language. In 2019, The Caymans’ GDP totaled around $4.78 billion. Caymanians, as well as Cayman Islands companies, enjoy zero direct taxation. Apart from tourism, shipping is also a key economic contributor. Home to a tropical wet and dry climate, The Caymans’ average high temperature remains in the 80s degrees Fahrenheit throughout the year. The islands’ rainiest months are September and October. Although rare, hurricane landfall is entirely possible, with Ivan being the last hurricane to hit land in 2004. Hurricane season occurs from June to November. Additional points of interest  are George Town, Heroes Square , Mastic Trail, Pedro St. James Castle, East End Light, Hell and Truman Bodden Sports Complex. Local foods include seafood, coconut shrimp, jerk chicken, turtle soup and stew. The Caymans’ unofficial national dish is cassava (heavy cake, margarine, vanilla, boiled coconut milk, brown sugar, spices, grated cassava). Fun drinks are rum punch, daiquiris, piña coladas, bikini martinis and the seven mile breeze (local vodka, cranberry / grapefruit juices, over ice, garnished with lime). The Mudslide frozen drink (vodka, coffee liqueur, Irish cream, vanilla ice cream, chocolate syrup) originates from Rum Point circa the 1970s. With some background information on the area, we’re ready for hotels in Cayman Islands that will help make for an outstanding experience.

  1. Needless must I say that this article has as content, paradise mirrors oozing from it. This is in fact a very interesting one and I truly fancy everything written in here. The regal beach club is surely a must visit for me if I ever got to the cayman island and the various alternatives here. It is oozingnof pure natural beauty and it is simply great to behold. The cost per person too is very considerate and should be worth staying. This is pure beauty. Thanks

  2. This is the first time I am hearing of the Cayman Islands. I wouldn’t have thought that Britain has a territory in the Carribean sea. There are so many people that live here too and I’m wondering how I never knew about it before. Pictures from this island looks so good, I am so impressed. I think I will visit on my next vacation though. Thank you a million times for sharing this one here. Cheers!

  3. Hello there, thanks for sharing this wonderful post. There are so many people who are willing to travel but have no idea of some cool place to go to, while some other know of a good location, but not a good place to stay while they are away. Looking at this post, I’m really impressed by these suggestions you have given and I wouldn’t mind visiting the Kimpton seafire resort on one of my vacations as I love the quality they have to offer and tye fitness place is one I’ll love to see.

  4. I have always wanted to try the all inclusive. I actually just had a conversation with a colleague the other day. He said that it is best to book for only 4 star and above hotels if I want to do the all inclusive. It is very affordable and everything is premium including the liquors. The liquor part sold me lol Thank you for the hotel list, amenities and the cost. I will definitely tell my husband about this amazing deal. It is cold in NYC!

    1. Nuttanee lol! Glad you found the liquor to your liking. There are lots of fine places to see in Cayman. Stay warm 🙂

  5. Now this is a vacation… Been thinking of our next vacation and reading about this sounds so heavenly… I have been to the Cayman Islands. I do like beachfront so the Ritz Carlton Grand Cayman sounds like a good idea. With good food, spa, pool, beach and some diving, I can stay there forever. Bring me there now! Thanks for sharing nearby places and it’s good to know that it’s not too far from the airport!

  6. I follow this site and I agree with you. You are anything but standard. That is an interesting history of The Cayman Islands. I love that all your destination locations have great and modern taste to them. I wouldn’t want to be on vacation with no WiFi at any given time.  I see why the Kimpton Seafire Resort and Spa costs that much per night. I must say the view, the feel of the outside while inside is worth every penny. Those features that go with it are just amazing. Glad to see thatthere is something also affordable. Calypso Cove also has amazing views and is quite pocket friendly. Thank you for these great suggestions. Page bookmarked.

  7. I have been on holiday to Jamaica on the North West,. I know it is near to Cayman but I have never thought of checking out Cayman, maybe because I have never seen any information about what is available. Those resorts are amazing. Everything looks so peaceful I like my vacations to be away from my usual city life and in these natural island settings. From your list, I love the Ritz Carlton and the Shangri- La Bed and breakfast. Looks like I could have a really good time on the island. Thank you

  8. OOOHHH!!! I want to go to the Cayman, but I never been there.   The tours and luxury apartments or hotel cost pretty high. Put the hurriance season to avoid the disaster the people’s vacation is good idea.  Someday,  I will go there and have much fun and relax there.  Thanks for the tours the Cayman Islands.

    1. Carolyn thank you for the comments and enthusiasm! Hopefully you will get to visit the Cayman Islands very soon:)

  9. Wow, you certainly do know how to make a destination look so very appealing, I have never been to the Cayman Island or any of the alternatives but after reading your post here, I really do want to go there, the apartments that you recommend look absolutely amazing, in fact, I’m having trouble choosing a favourite  because they all look so good, thank you for sharing this excellent post, I may book up ready for next summer.

    1. Russ thank you very much for the kind words. Glad to hear you liked the Cayman accommodation recommendations and happy travels out there 🙂

  10. The first thing I thought about was a paradise for people hiding their money for tax purposes, lol. However, its easy to see why this is truly a paradise. For anyone. Good article with beautiful pictures. This is a place I definitely want to consider to be my next travel destination. Thanks a lot for this.

  11. I love history and enjoyed your section on that. I’m sure there are many colorful stories about the settlers and how they ended up there!
I couldn’t have imagined that a vacay on a private beach front is affordable if it’s set up with a group. What a way to truly relax!
I have thought of these islands primarily as a banking center, not really a place to plan a vacation (unless you’re a billionaire!).
That sun and the tropical colors of all the locations you posted are very appealing. I’d love to walk into those views!
Great info, thank you for all the specifics!

  12. I love this site… I actually bookmarked it on my commuter to come back to it. It is extremely informational, and I don’t have to go to several pages and reading to get to the price. I prefer pages like this, where you can see all that I’m reading about, without having to click several buttons to get to the final expenditures….

    Anyway… great site… keep it coming…

  13. Hi, The Cayman islands look amazing just scrolling through the different accommodation that you have to offer seems like a holiday in itself. I love the long white sandy beaches and I feel I could get lost there forever. Living in The UK the Cayman islands seem like a fantasy paradise. I love the look of the sprat luxury villa and at $88.00  a night it is a bargain.  I would love to see the cost of flights from the UK to this destination as I feel it could be quite a cheap holiday if I can get a big enough group together. I like the way that these packages work. Thanks for all the information.

  14. Thanks very much admin for this great article about the cayman island, it has really been an enjoyable article from its start to its end and thanks for providing us with the historical back ground of this island and  also some of the wonderful alternatives which have made me fall in love with the island and I think am gonna enjoy my Christmas vacation there. Thanks very much in advance.

  15. Hello there, good to see you share insights on all Inclusive Cayman Island Alternatives. If I ever needed to travel to the Cayman Island, I’ll check this list again. As an internet lover, I don’t joke with free WiFi and most of these have free WiFi and are very affordable too. They’re really beautiful too.

  16. Hi,  this sounds like the vacation of my dreams.  The price is more affordable than I thought.  I pictured it be expensive for so much luxery. For what you are getting   if you get get a group of friends together it would be a lot funner and cheaper. 8 to 10 people would be about perfect.

love the ocean front two bedroom suite.  I hope its not too hot.

  17. Thanks for this interesting post, an all inclusive offered is a really interesting and beneficial one, having so many thing under it like bike rentals, food and all. It is nice that there are alternatives for it and I like the ideas that you’ve mentioned, my favorite is the Regal beach club.

  18. Anyone of these resorts would be wonderful.  The Caymans have always sounded so exotic, and the pictures are beautiful. I am sure that spending some time in any one of these locations would assure a memorable vacation.

I enjoyed the thumbnail of the history of the Caymans and knowing how the island has been governed.  The thought that such a small population, only 65,000 people, could accommodate the fortunes of wealthy people is surprising.

Thanks for sharing the information and images.  Fun and interesting.

  23. The Cayman Islands sound like a wonderful place to take a relaxing vacation. My
favorite room would overlook the ocean. I picture myself sitting
on the patio enjoying one of their specialty cakes. I have never had turtle soup
and would probably skip that treat. If you can travel with a small group of
friends the per night rate would be affordable. The rooms that you shared are breathtaking.
