Hotels in Auckland

Hotels in Auckland offer wonderful accommodations in a destination nicknamed “City of Sails”. Clean, crisp and vibrant, Auckland is known for its Sky Tower (the Southern hemisphere’s tallest free-standing structure), reserves and domains (parks), sea views, super-yachts, dramatic sunsets, exemplary restaurants and establishments, outdoor adventures and wildlife, and, of course, rugby. Prior to visiting Auckland, it may be a good idea to learn a little about the Māori culture. Keep in mind that Auckland small business owners greatly appreciate travelers. Fairly liberated, New Zealand became one of the first countries to legalize prostitution circa 2003. Cars travel on the left-hand side of the road, currency is New Zealand dollar and the drinking age is 18 years old. The All Blacks, New Zealand’s national rugby team and arguably the most successful sports team in human history, plays its games at Eden Park in central Auckland. Events include Auckland Arts Festival, Auckland Writers Festival, Taranaki Beer Festival, Laneway Festival, Touch Bass Auckland, Spring City Music Festival, Rhythm and Vines, Explore Splore, Juicy Festival, Pasifika Food Festival, Auckland Lantern Festival, Krishna Holi – Festival of Colours Auckland and Aum New Years Eve Festival. Hotels in Auckland are some of the best in Oceania. Before we get to hotels in Auckland, let’s take a look at some more background information on the area to help you along the way.

Inhabited around 1350 AD by the Māori people,  Auckland  eventually became part of a British colony circa 1840. The Māori population is estimated to have peaked at around 20,000 prior to Europeans’ arrival. On September 18, 1840 Auckland was founded via the Treaty of Waitangi. The city was declared New Zealand’s capital officially in 1841. About 50 percent of Auckland’s early population was of Irish descent. In 1865, Auckland lost its status as the country’s capital to Wellington, due to Wellington’s proximity to the South Island. The Flagstaff War of 1845 between the United Kingdom and the Māori resulted in a stalemate. Auckland expanded rapidly in first half of the 20th century due to its trams and railways. Following WWII, the majority of transportation transitioned to motor vehicle. Auckland Harbour Bridge was contructed in the late 1950s. Many companies relocated from Wellington to Auckland during the mid-1980s as a result of economic deregulation. Since the 80s, an uptick in immigrants from Hong Kong, Taiwan and Korea, as well as the introduction of Hindu temples, halal butchers and ethnic restaurants, has influenced culture.

New Zealand’s largest city, Auckland has a population of around 1.6 million people. Diverse, multicultural and cosmopolitan, Auckland is home to the world’s largest number of Polynesians. The City of Sails’ surrounding hills are covered in rain forest. Unique to the city is its harbor, which lies on each of two separate major bodies of water. The city’s climate is considered Köppen, with average high temperatures at around 75 degrees Fahrenheit in February and 58 degrees in July. Major points of interest include Auckland CBD, Sky Tower, Town Hall, Auckland Harbour Bridge, Rangitoto Island, St Matthew-in-the-City, Westhaven Marina, Auckland Art Gallery, Auckland War Memorial Museum, New Zealand Maritime Museum, National Museum of the Royal New Zealand Navy, Auckland Zoo, Auckland Botanic Gardens and Eden Park. Hāngi, a traditional Maori method of cooking, consists of heated rocks used in a pit-oven called an umu. Popular foods are fish and chips, whitebait (herring), lolly cake, meat pie, pavola (a meringue-based dessert), rewena (a traditional Maori sourdough bread) and hokey pokey ice cream (vanilla ice cream with honeycomb toffee). Primary drinks include beer, wine and Lemon & Paeroa (a lemon-flavored, sweet soft drink). Now that we have a little background information on the area, it’s time for hotels in Auckland that will help make for an unforgettable experience.

Peace Out Skincare

There they are, hotels in Auckland that will help make for a memorable trip. We hope you have found this information useful and most of all, that you enjoy your time in New Zealand!

25 Replies to “Hotels in Auckland”

  1. How lavish some of these hotels are! They are more beautiful and luxurious than my apartment! Of course, they cost about as much per day as my apartment does per month. However, the scenic countryside of New Zealand makes it worth the expense. We all need to get away from time to time and you’ve shown the most beautiful way to do so. One of these days you may find me sitting in one of these hotel rooms gazing out the window. Thank you for sharing.

  2. What a great post, as I was going through this post I could feel as if I am already in New Zealand, I believe that place must be awesome according to the description. It’s very recommendable to know or to be sure of the place you will settle while arrive in New Zealand, thank you for sharing such a wonderful article, I am sure it will be of great help to many as they research on hotels in New Zealand.

    Thank you.

  3. Hi

It is nice to hear a review of New Zealand such a beautiful country, which I would like to visit one day. I have seen pictures of New Zealand from watching rugby union and the cricket, which makes you want to visit the country. When you visit a country you have no idea about what hotel to stay in or if  the room you are staying in is at the best price. This is hard work and you make each hotel sound wonderful, each  having their advantages and disadvantages. When staying in a hotel you are looking for all the creature comforts without paying too much. I have experienced good hotels and bad hotels, so I appreciate avoiding the latter.

The biggest problem is which one to go for.

    Thanks

    Antonio

  4. In my opinion, these Auckland New Zealand hotels are the most luxurious I have ever seen.
I definitely have to schedule a trip here. My favorite hotel is the Elegant Beachfront Villa on the Northshore. I’ve always looked for places where I can see the sea or the ocean from my window.

I can imagine every morning how I drink my coffee on this balcony and watch these amazing views. You convinced me that this place is worth a visit once in my life, and I can’t wait to do it. Thanks a lot and wish you all the best!

    1. Nimrodngy that is a profound statement! The views are certainly amazing, as well as the location. Who doesn’t want to visit the place that Gandolf the Grey fought so bravely?

  5. Hello, I really want to appreciate your effort in putting together this website and writing this article. The quay street penthouse got my attention. I have been to New Zealand before but not o Auckland I think that next time I visit I will take  visit to on of this places. This is very well researched and we should all know there are beautiful places in the world

  6. This would definitely be a beautiful place to visit i had no idea the lord of the rings was filmed in New Zealand I am a big fan of the movie this has got to  be  one of the most beautiful on earth i would really like to visit here some day and stay in of these beautiful hotels and enjoy this truly amazing view I’ve never seen anything quite like this great article and great job on the description and history you provided as well it provided me with so much knowledge that I otherwise would have never known – Jonathon

  7. i must say that New Zealand is a very fascinating country and Auckland is the most visited city there, because everyone wants to see where the Lord of the rings trilogy was filmed.i have been to auctland quite a few times and I must say it no joke the place is awesome and they have amazing hotels too, during my stay I stayed at the boat house as I have heard alot about the hotel so I went there first…but I must say your article is very much loaded.i would save it for future reference

  8. Thank you for this information. Having the most important information presented simply and clearly makes finding the ideal accommodation so much easier. I enjoy that the information provided isn‘t overwhelming and that I got from it what I was searching for. I think its a great overview of the available options in Auckland, and having not been there myself I feel I could trust that I would be in good hands here with these options. I would enjoy visiting many places, with New Zealand right up there, and now Auckland too. Should my travels take me there one day I would definitely consult this website again. Thank you!

  9. I’ve never been to New Zealand but I’d love to go there next year. Auckland really seems a perfect place to go for a holiday. Going through this review, the Boat House captured my attention as I think it must be very romantic to stay in a boat house like this. But also the Auckland Clifftop looks very tempting, I love nature and staying in such a beauatiful setting near a lake is the best holiday for me. I’ve never liked big hotels, the classical high-rise buildings with receptionists, the accommodation shown in your review is much more pleasant. We stayed in a similar house last year when we went to Scotland and it was wonderful. Lake view on one side, hills on the other side.
Thank you for your review, I would have never found these gems without it!

  10. I have wanted to visit New Zealand for quite some time. My thought was to do New Zealand and Australia in one trip that lasted 4 to 6 months. Do you think that’s possible? The best rental I saw in your article was the Boat House. I really like the A-frame style and the view looks outstanding! February sounds like a great time for a visit!

  11. First impression, the pictures are really good. Then I thought this would be all pricey places that regular people can’t afford to try it. But when I keep on browsing, actually the price range is vary. I would say this can be for everyone. “Cost per person” section makes it easy to budget it if you’re travelling with friends or family. Also, “what’s around” part can help you planning the activities at the hotel you stay. Very informative website for travelers who never go to New Zealand.

  12. I found your article very useful and elaborative . The hotel seems quite luxurious with so many facilities . Some hotels are on the seafront. The cost per night varies for different hotels.  Some hotels are quite expensive and some are affordable .Well New Zealand is a very beautiful country to visit and there are so many places to explore in New Zealand.

Thanks for sharing this great article!

  13. I am sure my knowledge of New Zealand is woefully lacking. But when I think of New Zealand I think of Lord of the Rings and the Hobbit filming locations. I was expecting to find details of Tolkienesque tours being offered from some of these hotels like they offer Game of Thrones tours in Northern Ireland where much of that was filmed. But maybe most of the locations were far away from Auckland. Anyway, there are some excellent places here and many look to be very reasonably priced. It is a hell of a long way away from where I live though. Maybe one day …
