Hotels in Hobart Tasmania

Hotels in Hobart Tasmania are located on an island nicknamed “Tassie”. An island state of Australia, Tasmania is located 150 miles south of mainland Australia. Separating the island of Tasmania and the Australian continent is the Bass Strait, so-named after George Bass, a British naval surgeon and explorer of Australia who disappeared mysteriously in the area circa 1803. Hotels in Hobart Tasmania, seemingly across the pond from Australia, offer amazing accommodations in a place known for its delicious seafood, its Tasmanian beer, its ocean views, its interesting marketplaces and its museums. Indeed, one of Tasmania’s most beloved tourist destinations is Cradle Mountain National Park, where you’ll find great hiking and which is about a 2 hour drive northwest of Hobart. Before we get you to hotels in Hobart Tasmania, let’s take a look at some more background information on the area to help you along the way.

Hobart, the capital and most heavily populated city on the Australian island of Tasmania, has a population of around 235,000 people. Located off Australia’s southeastern coast, Hobart has a mild temperate oceanic climate, with average high temperatures ranging from around 72 degrees Fahrenheit in January to around 54 degrees in July. The city was founded in 1804 as a British penal colony and has since expanded northward from Sullivans Cove along both sides of the River Derwent. Mining and agriculture contributed to an expansion in the 20th century. Hobart’s major points of interest include Hobart City Centre, Salamanca Market, Cascade Brewery, Kelly’s Steps, Theatre Royal, Tasmanian Museum and Art Gallery, Museum of Old and New Art Royal Tasmanian Botanical Gardens and Bellerive Oval, to name a few. Popular foods include lamb, meat pies, seafood such as oysters, scallops and fish, fudge, wasabi cheese, leatherwood honey, shredded pork and apple cake. Drinks include Tasmanian beer, which is typically lager-style, wine, sparkling wine, gin and whiskey. Additionally, you may find a number of craft breweries on the island. Now that we have some background information on the area, it’s time for hotels in Hobart Tasmania that will help make for an excellent adventure.

  1. Hello!

First, it’s a very beautiful picture of Hobart city! The way the buildings look like, the colored lights, the sky… it’s all a beauty!

Some people may think that Tasmania is very, very far, and also little; but as they say, strong essences are kept in small bottles. Also, the way the hotels look inside is quite nice. The Hampden Road marble is lovely!

I don’t think I will get to visit Tasmania, but at least we have the chance to see it virtually and enjoy the sight – which is very worth admiring!

    Best regards, Peter

  2. Tasmania is one of the top destinations on my traveling wish list. After your article, I want to visit it even more! And luckily, I won’t have to browse through hotel reviews for hours, because you narrowed them down for me already. I can already see myself at Strahan House, chilling by the fireplace. It’s also in my price range, so all I need is the plane ticket. Any suggestion for the best way to fly to Hobart from London?

    1. Katja so glad to hear that Tasmania is one of your top destinations and that you found value in the post! You might fly from London to Sydney and then from Sydney to Hobart, since Sydney is fairly close on Australia’s east coast

  3. Hi, thank you very much for publishing a great and useful article on “Hotels in Hobart Tasmania”. To speak the truth, for the past few days, I was looking for a similar article to get an idea about Hobart Tasmanian hotel. is hotel cost depends on season? or same cost in whole year? Finally, I hope you will write more useful article in future.

    1. Abul supply and demand definitely factors into hotel pricing, though the prices shouldn’t fluctuate that drastically based on past research. Seasons surely come into play when it comes to pricing as well, with summer being the preferred time to travel for most places. One thing to always keep in mind is that the summer season is opposite in the northern and southern hemispheres. Good questions and thanks for stopping by!
