Hotels in Hong Kong

Hotels in Hong Kong offer remarkable glimpses upon a city nicknamed the “Pearl of the Orient”. A special Chinese administrative district, Hong Kong is located just south of Shenzhen and across the Zhujiang River Estuary from Macau, an autonomous region known as the “Las Vegas of Asia”. A fast ferry one-way between Hong Kong and Macau takes about an hour. Known for its impressive skyline, harbors, shopping centers, restaurants, nightlife, museums, old-world traditions, new-world energy, natural surroundings and architecture, Hong Kong ranks as one of the world’s most expensive cities. Hong Kong’s currency is the Hong Kong dollar, cars travel on the left-hand side and the drinking age is 18 years old. Cantonese is the most widely spoken language, although nearly half of the population speaks English as well. Before traveling to Hong Kong it may be advisable to learn some Cantonese phrases and to learn to eat with chopsticks. An Octopus card is useful for making contactless electronic payments. Hong Kong festivals include Clockenflap, Lantern Festival, Chinese New Year, Mid-Autumn Festival, Ghost Festival and Dragon Boat Festival. While relatively a bit pricey, hotels in Hong Kong do come with all the bells and whistles. Before we get to hotels in Hong Kong, let’s take a look at some more background information on the area to help you along the way.

Archaeological evidence suggests that people have inhabited the Hong Kong area for over 35,000 years. The area was first incorporated into China by way of the Qin dynasty circa 214 BCE. Portuguese explorer Jorge Álvares became the first European to visit the area in 1513. The Canton System was introduced in 1757 in order to regulate trade. In 1842, Hong Kong became a colony of the British Empire, which influenced the area’s significant economic expansion. The territory was transferred to China in 1997, becoming a special administrative region with a separate governing and economic system than that of the mainland.

Officially the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region of the People’s Republic of China, Hong Kong sits alongside the Pearl River estuary in southern China. One of the world’s most densely populated cities, Hong Kong is home to around 7.5 million people. As such, the Pearl of the Orient has the largest number of skyscrapers of any city in the world. Summers are hot and humid, whereas winters are mild and typically sunny. Snowfall is rare. Hong Kong benefits from a capitalist mixed service economy, with low taxation and minimal government market intervention, emphasizing economic liberty and the rule of law. Over half the city’s population identifies themselves as “Hongkongers”, while only around 10 percent consider themselves “Chinese”. Restaurants, nightlife, cinema, music, business and sports are some of Hong Kong’s main attractions. Three forms of gambling are legal in Hong Kong: the lottery, horse racing and football. Major points of interest include the International Commerce Centre, Two International Finance Centre, Flagstaff House, Tin Hau Temple, Ping Shan Heritage Trail, Lui Seng Chun, Blue House, Hong Kong Stock Exchange, Avenue of Stars, the University of Hong Kong, Hong Kong Cultural Centre, Happy Valley Racecourse and Hong Kong Stadium. Popular foods include pork, goose, chicken, seafood, wontons and dim sim (a Cantonese, bite-sized steamed dumping). A widely-sought alcoholic drink is baijiu (a strong, clear liquor served neat and usually with dinner). Now that we have some background information on the area, it’s time for hotels in Hong Kong that are sure to help make for an outstanding trip.

  1. I’ve always wanted to visit Hong Kong on vacation, maybe mainland China as well but I’m admittedly worried about the Communist government there. With all the protests in Hong Kong right now how do you think it would affect a vacation there? Would a cheap hotel in Hong Kong be available away from the strife? Or would it be relatively okay for tourists to move around and not get caught up in the protesting on the streets? Thanks for any advice you can offer me on a good cheap hotel in Hong Kong. Appreciate it.

  2. Hi

It is great to know that Hong Kong was colonized by the British and that it has the highest number of skyscrapers. I see in some movies how beautiful this city is. Looking at the view you provided proved that to be true. In my map, one of the places I would love to visit is Hong Kong. I’ve never been there before and do not have anyone who has. I just love the view. I initially thought that a beautiful city like this will cost a fortune to find a hotel.

The hotel prices are quite cheap. They look beautiful and have view. Please, which of these hotels is closest to the airport?

Thanks for sharing this beautiful culture.

  3. Hi,

This is extremely helpful as I am going to Hong Kong early in 2021. We are already looking to book our flights and hotel to ensure we have everything in place as I know HK is extremely popular.

I love the fact that you have told us what is nearby to the hotel, almost like a tour of the local area in one article. Impressive. Your list of hotels and apartments give me everything I need to start to formulate a plan of where I’m staying and where I can go during the day and evening.

    Many Thanks

    Tony

  4. When you visit an Asian location like China or Hongkong, it is best to maximize your Asian travel experience by staying in hotels with truly Asian ambiance. Don’t check-in at hotels that mimic European styles but rather with hotels that have designs native to Asians. In this regard, I’ll go for SuiteDream Boutique Apartment and Butterfly on Wellington Boutique Hotel Central. Among the cheap hotels in Hongkong list here, these two have the most Asian in nature, in design and ambiance.

  5. Hong Kong is one of the very big cities in the whole of China but I have not thought of going there yet because of some relations issue around here. I really hope though that someday, I will be able to visit. The hotels you showed here are both pocket friendly but still top of the game. I will like to go sometime to the beautiful city. Thanks for gathering such good information on the platform.

  6. Great resource for travel. These hotels are absolutely gorgeous and I could definitely see myself staying in many of them. It is great that you have found such beautiful hotels at such affordable rates. Hong Kong is on my list of places to travel and this will help with accommodations. Thank you.

  7. Hi this site is so helpful! my friends were in hong-kong on a 4 days business trip, and they actually confirmed that its so hard  to find good but cheap accommodation. Then i remembered this site and told them about  ‘Butterfly on Morrison Boutique Hotel Causeway Bay’ and where it is located.  Up to now they are still thanking me,  all thanks to this site.

  8. Thanks you for giving the information on this very nice hotels in Hong Kong. They are very cost effective. On the first of your list is a very nice looking hotel that I like a lot. The Butterfly on Wellington Boutique Hotel Central is a beauty to behold. I really like it. Thanks for sharing this here. I have a friend who is looking to travel to China. He will be very glad to use this as a guide

  9. Hi,

Thanks a lot for your article. This is extraordinarily beneficial as I am going to Hong Kong early in 2021. We are already seeking to e-book our flights and hotel to make certain we have everything in region as I know HK is extraordinarily famous.

I love the fact that you have instructed us what is close by to the lodge, nearly like a excursion of the neighborhood location in a single article. Impressive. Your listing of hotels and flats deliver me the whole lot I want to start to formulate a plan of wherein I’m staying and in which I can go at some stage in the day and nighttime.keep sharing!

    1. Irin it’s a great time to start planning for your 2021 Hong Kong trip, and surely the smoke should be cleared by then!

  10. Hello!

Hong Kong is a very beautiful city (as a matter of fact, it’s similar to a state). Many tall buildings – after all, you tell us it has the largest number of skyscrapers in the world – and their hotels have wonderful insights like in Tsing Fung Street and Tung Lo Wan Road – in my opinion these two, along with Morrison Hill Road, offer the most beautiful looks.

That yellowish mirror in Tsing Fung (I hope I spelled it correctly) is lovely! A fascinating color that would make a tourist hire that room with pleasure. In Hong Kong there are lots of things to see.

    Best regards,

    Peter

    1. Peter thank you for the insights on Hong Kong and great observation with the yellowish mirror. It’s a very unique look indeed 🙂
