Hotels in Oslo provide exciting accommodations in a destination nicknamed “The Tiger City”. Home to some of the world’s most beautiful fjords such as Geirangerfjord, as well as unique events like ski-jumping, Norway abuts Sweden across the North Sea from Denmark and the United Kingdom. Extensive shorelines, beautiful natural surroundings, bunad attire and a legendary Viking heritage are Norwegian trademarks. A center for trade, banking, industry and maritime shipping, Oslo is located in southeastern Norway on the Oslofjord. Generally a great people, Oslovians however are not outwardly social, at least initially. Keep in mind that generally Oslo is a safe place and that most Norwegians speak English, though the city can be a bit pricey. Currency is the Norwegian krone. The drinking age for beer and wine is 18 years old, while for spirits it is 20 years old. Good to know is that drinking in public is illegal in Norway. Oslo events include Oslo Jazz Festival, Oslo International Church Music Festival, Miniøya, Øya Festival, Mela Festival, PiP Festival, Inferno Metal Festival, by:Larm, Musikkfest Oslo, Granittrock Festival, Oslo World Festival, Norwegian Wood, Holmenkollen Ski Festival and Oslo Craft Beer Festival. Hotels in Oslo are top-notch when it comes to Scandinavian accommodations. Before we get to hotels in Oslo, let’s take a look at some more background information on the area to help you along the way.
Founded as a Viking Age settlement in the year 1040, Oslo from its inception has been a center for trade, and a capital since around 1300. The first king to reside permanently in the city was Haakon V of Norway, who built the Akershus Fortress. In 1174, Hovedøya Abbey was built. Churches and abbeys came to own large tracts of land, which aided in economic development. Hanseatic League traders from Rostock dominated trade from the 12th through 15th centuries. In 1349, Oslo, like many other European cities, was inflicted profoundly by the Black Death. By around 1400, Oslo had been reduced to a provincial administrative center on account of Norway’s personal union with Denmark, and the monarchs’ residences in Copenhagen. In 1624, the city was destroyed by fire and subsequently rebuilt near Akershus Fortress. For nearly a century, starting in 1838, the city was renamed Kristiania, only to be reverted back to Oslo circa 1925. Merging with the once surrounding, vast, suburban community of Aker in 1948, an expansive municipality was thus established in the Oslo area, which can be found found to this day.
Norway’s capital city, Oslo has a population of around 675,000 people. Positioned due-north of Oslofjord, the city is surrounded by remarkable green hills and mountains to the north, east and west. Average high temperatures range from around 72 degrees Fahrenheit in July, to just below freezing in January. An economic and governmental center, as well as a global city, Oslo is involved heavily in the maritime business sector. Hurtigruten and Havila Voyages are local cruise lines. One of the world’s most revered expressionist painters, Edvard Munch resided in The Tiger City for two decades, and died therein. Munch’s paintings can be viewed at the Munch Museum. Major points of interest include Enerhaugen, Victoria Terrasse, Opera House, Bjørvika Barcode, Tjuvholmen, City Hall, Jernbanetorget. Oslo City and Grünerløkka. Popular foods are salmon, raspeball (a type of potato dumpling), frikadelle (meatballs), brunost (a type of cheese) and waffles. Drinks include akvavit (a distilled spirit), beer and wine. Now that we have some background information on the area, it’s time for hotels in Oslo that are sure to inspire.

So there they are, hotels in Oslo that will help make for a memorable trip. We hope you have found this information useful and most of all, that you enjoy your time in Norway!
Hi I was hoping you could suggest to me a hotel in Oslo that would be near the Inferno Metal Fest music festival in April? I want to see the festival but also go on the Norwegian Black Metal tour that Anders Odden does every year for the Inferno Fest tourists. Norwegian Black Metal has a very interesting history in Oslo and I would love to see some of the historic sites around Oslo. Thanks for any ideas.
Hi juizdk great question. It looks like Inferno Metal Fest will be held at Rockefeller Music Hall. Clarion Hotel The Hub and Sonderland Apartment are both only 0.2 miles from there, so these would be your best bets. Thank you for the comments and have a great time at Inferno Metal Fest!
Once again thank you for the awesome post! I was just reading your post on Sweden then notice you had yet another country I am looking at going to, and that is Norway! I actually like the Frogner House Apartments on here! They are close to a concert hall, and I love some of Norway’s music because it can be pretty edgy!
Jessie it’s nice to see you back and that’s excellent! Norway being close to Sweden that would be a fun trip for sure. Frogner House Apartments – Huitfeldtsgate 19 and Frogner House Apartments Odins Gate are both fine choices again. Hope it’s a great trip!

Woo! It will really take a lot of effort and time to get the best hotels in a city I am not familiar with. You did a great job by making this research and putting together the best hotels in Oslo. They’re really beautiful and they meet most of my requirements. Thank you so much.
Shifts you’re welcome and thank you for the comments!
Hey,
It’s a dream come true for someone like me. Luxury Hotels Website. I never liked traveling as a kid, but now I love exploring and discovering new places. Half a year ago, I was in Santorini at Kamari blu. The staff was very friendly and the food was wonderful, although the hotel was only 3 stars, it was more than enough. I would also like to try something more prestigious,…say, Shades of White.
Jan thank you for the comments. Please feel free to check out our Santorini recommendations below if you feel like heading back there (as you should 🙂
Santorini Hotels
Oslo is definitely on my wish list for visiting. I was recently in Amsterdam and it has some of the looks and feel. The hotels you showed and described are absolutely stunning. I have heard great things about Oslo and the Holmboes gate 8 has the coolest interior design. My wife took a look as well and really wants to go now. I am really excited to have found this site and all this incredible travel info about Norway. I will be checking back soon to figure out next travel plans.
Robert thank you to you and your wife for your enthusiasm. Oslo would be a perfect place for you to visit as a couple. There’s some romantic about fjords so visiting them might be an idea as well 🙂
