Hotels in Lisbon

Hotels in Lisbon offer chic accommodations in a city also known as “Lisboa”. Roman, Gothic and Baroque architecture, museums, Fado music, tramcars, sloping cobblestone streets, pastel-colored buildings, street art, sunny weather, botanical gardens and nightlife are just some of the things that attract visitors to this coastal capital city. Built on seven hills, Lisboa has a sloping terrain. As such, it’s advisable to bring comfortable walking shoes. Also good to know is that traffic can be bad and parking can be expensive, so it’s best to walk around if possible, take public transport or travel via ride-share, respectively. Portugal’s currency is the Euro. Popular events include Lisbon Carnival, Sónar Lisboa, Rock In Rio Lisboa, NOS Alive, Super Bock Super Rock, Sumol Summer Fest, Festival de Sintra, Kalorama Lisboa, MONSTRA Lisbon Animated Film Festival, IndieLisboa International Film Festival and Lisbon Marathon. Boom Festival, a biennial, transformational, multidisciplinary, psychedelic and sustainable festival featuring a psytrance universe fusion of music, film screenings, visual exhibitions, fire performances, workshops, yoga, group meditations and art galleries with the surrounding wilderness and nature, occurs every two years in Portugal about 160 miles northwest of Lisbon. One of Portugal’s best professional football teams is Sporting CP, which plays its games at José Alvalade Stadium on the city’s north side. Hotels in Lisbon are some of the most exciting in all of Europe. Before we get to hotels in Lisbon, let’s take a look at some more background information on the area to help you along the way.

Since 1255 Lisbon has been Portugal’s capital city. Pre-Celtic tribes were the first to inhabit the area that would become Lisbon during the Neolithic period. During the Roman era, the area was integrated with the province of Lusitania. Between the years 409 and 429, the city encountered barbarian invasions, which resulted in Sarmatian, Alan and Vandal occupation. On August 6, 711, Lisbon was overtaken by North African and Middle Eastern Berbers and Arabs. Alfonso, I of Portugal recaptured Lisbon circa 1147. Lisbon’s golden era occurred during the 16th century, when the city became the European hub for trade between places such as Africa, India, the Far East and Brazil. During the 17th century, skirmishes and episodes of more serious warfare between Portugal and Spain resulted in the Treaty of Lisbon, which recognized the sovereignty of the House of Braganza, Portugal’s new ruling dynasty that lasted until the last king of Portugal Dom Manuel II was overthrown into exile by way of the 5 October 1910 revolution. A devastating earthquake on November 1, 1755 and subsequent tsunami killed 20% of Lisbon’s population and destroyed 80% of its buildings. Two of the most important buildings to be lost forever were the Ribeira Palace and the Hospital Real de Todos os Santos. Napoléon Bonaparte’s invasion of Portugal at the start of the 19th century resulted in Queen Maria I’s and Prince-Regent John’s fleeing to Brazil. Lisbon remained a neutral, open European-Atlantic port during World War II.

Portugal’s capital and largest city, Lisbon has an estimated population of over 505,000 people. The city’s symbol is the raven. It’s coat of arms has existed since the 12th century. One of the world’s oldest cities, Lisbon abuts the Atlantic Ocean and River Tagus on the Iberian Peninsula. The high-speed railway Alfa Pendular, which can reach 137 miles per hour, connects Lisbon to Portugal’s other major cities. Visitors enjoy Lisbon’s architecture, historical boulevards and monuments, as well as its museums, art collections, sports and business. Lisbon benefits from a Mediterranean climate, with summer temperatures averaging in the mid-70s degrees Fahrenheit, and winter temps ranging in the low-to-mid-50s. Over 3,000,000 tourists visit Lisbon annually. Wine is popular in restaurants, while Licor Beirão is Portugal’s national drink. 1. That’s an awesome post. All the penthouse looks very cool. Portugal was in my travel list previous year, but didn’t get much time to go there. I’m glad that I get to find this amazing article in your website today.

Now, I feel more confident to make a travel plan there. I’ve bookmarked your site and will keep visiting for more of travel related information, as our family need it all the time.

Thanks a lot for sharing this useful post. I appreciate your efforts bringing it together.

  2. These penthouses are awesome!
In the states I stay in nice hotels such as the Marriott and Hilton and they are good enough for me.
I cannot believe how different things are in Lisbon. I guess I’m just used to things in the country when I travel here in the U.S as opposed to staying in big cities.
But I would love to stay in a penthouse such as these.
I’m wondering if it’s much different than staying in a penthouse here in the U.S.?

    1. Thank you Rob! Staying in a penthouse is similar in each city in that they almost always provide amazing city views 🙂

  3. Lisbon has a wonderful warm climate, especially if you are coming from a cold climate, and just the right place for a holiday.

The penthouses shown all have great vistas all round, and the privacy is great, if you want to relax in peace and quiet, with all the modern conveniences at hand.

In spite of having the privacy, there are plenty of bars restaurants, and night clubs, and so on, for those who want entertainment.

The Charming Private Penthouse, although only having two bedrooms,is fully equipped for cooking, and has all the restaurants, bars, and a gym, nearby, but has access to a theatre, oceanarium, and market,as wellas being close to the airport.

So there is a wide choice, of really good accommodation, available for a first class holiday here.

    1. Thank you Robert, glad to hear you picked out something specific in The Charming Private Penthouse. This location has all those great amenities that you referenced. Happy travels!

  4. So many gorgeous choices and such amazing views as well. I am hoping to travel over there next year for a few weeks and I want luxury because I have earned the pleasure of staying somewhere beautiful so thank you. I have bookmarked this site foe my future needs

I don’t know what it is about that bathroom in Penthouse Lisboa but it looks amazing!  I love that design!  It never crossed my mind to rent a penthouse while traveling but this opened my eyes, there are so many other options besides a standard hotel and this is something that I think I have to look into booking one of your penthouses next time my wife an I go traveling

    1. Ibrahim glad to hear that you found something particular that you like in the bathroom! A nice bathroom definitely is something that enhances any stay.

  7. Travessa do Arco da Graça looks amazing! Out of curiosity, that huge balcony on your picture, all of those is inclusive, right? That’s so huge considering 4 bedrooms and it’ll be a dream staycation on my next Portugal trip. Who would say no to having dinner on the rooftop overseeing the breathtaking Lisbon and all its beauty 😀

  8. Hi!
Great post! I really wished I could stay in any of these penthouses, as they all are very luxurious and beautiful, but I guess they must also be very expensive.

I didn’t know much about sightseeing in Lisbon, so thank you for letting me learn something new today. It seems like there are many art museums there, so I will make sure to check them out if I ever visit Lisbon.

If I had to stay in one of these penthouses, I would choose the Lovely Stay Penthouse, because it is very near from the Dona Maria II National Theatre and I would really like to visit it.

    Best,

    Mariana

I liked the Travessa do Arco da Graça most as it is looking so bueautiful and all places are comparetivly nearby. But wjat about the price? How do they charge?

  11. What a great list of penthouses.  The views are amazing and the accommodations are definitely luxury.  Lisbon is definitely one of the cities that I want to see in the future.  I really like how you broke down the prices of each penthouse per person.  Staying in a penthouse is very affordable when travelling with a few people, and much better than staying in a hotel.

I have travelled to Europe before (Germany), and have always stayed in apartments because you have more space, and you have a complete kitchen to be able to cook meals if you wish.  It was great and very affordable.

Out of all the penthouses listed, I really like the view that the Estrela Penthouse has, it’s stunning.

Thanks for this information.  It really makes me want to visit Lisbon soon.

    1. Jenny you’re welcome and thank you for the comments. Penthouse views are unbeatable and relative to standard hotel rooms, if done right, they can be similar in price or even less pricey.
