Hotels in Bangkok Thailand

Hotels in Bangkok provide enchanting accommodations in a destination nicknamed “City of Angels”. Known for its cuisine, night & street life, cultural landmarks, parks, canals, temples, shrines and indeed, red-light districts, Bangkok is located in southern Thailand on the Gulf of Thailand. About half-way between the countries of Myanmar and Cambodia, Bangkok is a uniquely English-speaking city. When traveling to Bangkok, it’s best to respect the rules of Buddhism as well as the Thai royal family. Avoid kissing in public, throwing chewed gum onto the ground and pointing the soles of your feet at anyone. Additionally, watch out for scams, overcharging and dual pricing, an example of which being the gem scam. Bangkok currency is the Thai Baht, cars travel on the left-hand side and the drinking age is 20 years old. While there are multiple red-light districts found in the city, keep in mind that prostitution is technically illegal in Thailand, though not strictly enforced. Bangkok festivals include Kolour In The Park, Wonderfruit, Big Mountain Festival, Full Moon Party, Songkran (Thai New Year), Chinese New Year, The King’s Birthday, Loy Krathong and Candle Festival. Hotels in Bangkok are some of the best in all of Asia. Before we get to hotels in Bangkok, let’s take a look at some more background information on the area to help you along the way.

Dating back to the early 15th century, Bangkok has grown from a village, to a fortified customs outpost, to a town, and eventually into a present-day metropolis. A siege in 1688 resulted in the French being expelled from Siam (the former name of Thailand). King Taksin established a capital near present-day Bangkok circa 1767, thus establishing the Thonburi Kingdom. Succeeding Taksin, King Phutthayotfa Chulalok founded the Rattanakosin Kingdom in 1782. The City Pillar, erected on April 21, 1782, marked the official foundation of Bangkok as the country’s capital. International trade, first with the Chinese and then with the Western world, contributed to the city’s rise. Alongside the Japanese during World War II, Bangkok was hit by Allied bombing. After WWII, the city was re-built by the United States, becoming a popular R&R destination for military personnel. Thereafter, Japanese businesses began to invest in the city. Expansion continued rapidly, stalled only by the 1997 Asian financial crisis.

Home to roughly 8.5 million people, Bangkok is Thailand’s capital and most populous city. The City of Angels enjoys a tropical savanna climate. Average high temperatures hover around 90 degrees Fahrenheit throughout the year, while average lows remain in the 70s. The city’s record low is 50 degrees Fahrenheit. Architecture, attractions and city life create an adventurous atmosphere, with royal palaces, temples, museums, shopping malls, restaurants, night-life and sex tourism being main draws. Bangkok’s major points of interest include Sathon, Giant Swing, Victory Monument, Rama VIII Bridge, Wat Arun, Grand Palace, Royal Plaza, Lumphini Park, Chinatown, MahaNakhon, Khao San Road, Siam Discovery, Bangkok Art and Culture Centre, Museum of Contemporary Art, National Stadium and Hua Mak Sports Complex.  Popular Bangkok foods are hot and sour soup, fried noodles, sticky rice and spicy meats. Drinks include beer, whiskey, iced tea and coffee. Now that we have some background information on the city, it’s time for hotels in Bangkok that will help make for a memorable experience.
