Hotels in Dallas TX

Hotels in Dallas offer outstanding accommodations in a destination nicknamed “Big D”. Known for its restaurants, shopping, skyline, sports, Tex-Mex, soap operas and frozen margaritas, Dallas is located in northeasterly Texas, due-east of fellow Texas cities Arlington (about 25miles) and Fort Worth (about 35 miles). One of Dallas’ most popular neighborhoods is Deep Ellum, which is located just northeast of downtown.  The Dallas downtown area (City Center District) is home to many world-class attractions such as Winspear Opera House, Dallas Symphony Orchestra at Meyerson Symphony Center, Cathedral Shrine of the Virgin of Guadalupe (Catholic church), Nasher Sculpture Center (museum), Dallas Museum of Art, Perot Museum of Nature and Science, House of Blues Dallas (live music venue), The Dallas World Aquarium, Majestic Theater (performing arts theater), The Sixth Floor Museum at Dealey Plaza (history museum), Dallas Farmers Market, AT&T Discovery District (pedestrian zone) and Kay Bailey Hutchison Convention Center Dallas. Big D’s professional sports teams and their respective venues are as follows: Dallas Cowboys  ( AT&T Stadium – Arlington), the Texas Rangers (Globe Life Field – Arlington), the Dallas Mavericks and Dallas Stars (American Airlines Center – just northwest of City Center District), the Dallas Wings (College Park Center – Arlington) and FC Dallas (Toyota Stadium – Frisco). The Dallas area’s two main airports are Dallas/Fort Worth International Airport, which is located about 16 miles northwest of downtown, and Dallas Love Field Airport, which is about 5.5 miles northwest of downtown. When visiting Dallas, keep in mind that people dress in business attire in the downtown area, while the city’s outskirts can be more casual. If you’re venturing out at night, be wary and try not to go alone. “Ya’ll” and “have a blessed day” are two phrases that you might consider to use in conversation sparingly. Big events include Texas State Fair, Dallas Festival of the Arts, Dallas International Film Festival, BMW Dallas Marathon, Taste of Dallas, Lights All Night, Wobbleland at The Factory, So What ?! Music Festival, Ubbi Dubbi Festival, Riverfront Jazz Festival, Dallas International Guitar Festival, Oaktopia Festival, TX Food Truck Festival, North Texas Irish Festival, Greek Food Festival Of Dallas, Dallas Taco & Margarita Festival, Big Texas Beer Fest, Vitruvian Lights – Magical Night Of Lights, Plano Balloon Festival, Wildflower! Arts and Music Festival, Cottonwood Arts Festival, Texas Music Revolution, Japanese Festival, Korean Festival of Dallas, Festival At the Switchyard and Bloomin’ Bluegrass Festival & Chili Cook-Off.  Hotels in Dallas are some of the southwestern United States’ best. Before we get to hotels in Dallas, let’s take a look at some more background information on the area to help you along the way.

Initially inhabited by the Caddo Nation prior to being claimed by Spanish colonists, the Dallas area, throughout history, has been controlled by Spain, France, Mexico, the Republic of Texas, the Confederacy and the United States of America, respectively. The 1819 Adams–Onís Treaty defined the Red River as New Spain’s northern boundary, which placed the future Dallas location in Spanish territory. In 1821, when Mexico declared independence from Spain, the area fell briefly into the Mexican state of Coahuila y Tejas. Texas gained independence from Mexico circa 1836, when a majority of Anglo-American settlers formed the Republic of Texas. Presbyterian farmer, lawyer and tradesman John Neely Bryan founded Dallas in 1841. The Republic of Texas was annexed by the United States circa 1845. On February 2, 1856, the city was formally incorporated. Early Dallas relied on farming, the cattle trade and its trade routes for sustenance. Thereafter, the city’s railways became important for the shipping of commodities, such as cotton and oil. In the 1900s, Dallas was no less short of strife. In 1910, black man Allen Brooks, accused of raping a little girl, was lynched by a white mob at the downtown intersection of Main and Akard. 53 years later, President John F. Kennedy was publicly assassinated amidst his motorcade on Elm Street. During World War II, Dallas was a major manufacturer of military vehicles and aircraft. The 1980s brought about the telecommunications industry, which contributed greatly to the Dallas GDP.

Today, Dallas remains a crucial business hub. Home to around 1.3 million “Dallasites”, Big D is Texas’ third largest city by population behind Houston and San Antonio. A humid subtropical climate offers average summer highs in the low-to-mid 90s degrees Fahrenheit, while average winter highs stay at around 60 degrees. For business, Dallas is one of the United States’ most traveled destinations. With twenty buildings classified as skyscrapers, the Dallas skyline is an impressive sight to behold, especially at night. One of the skyline’s most recognizable buildings is the ball-shaped, observation Reunion Tower, while its tallest building at 921 feet is Bank of America Plaza. “How ’bout them Cowboys” is a popular saying and for good reason, as the Dallas Cowboys historically have been one of the NFL’s most successful football teams, having won five Super Bowls. Other Big D points of interest include Downtown, Dallas Arts District, Old Red Museum, Meadows Museum, NorthPark Center, City Hall, AT&T Performing Arts Center (Dallas Center for the Performing Arts), Fair Park, Dallas Union Station and Dallas Arboretum and Botanical Garden. Popular foods often involve barbecue and include T-bone steak, tenderloin, beef brisket, ribs, sausage, cowboy chili, chile con queso and chips, chicken-fried steak, Tex-Mex, pecan pie, lava cake, sheet cake and peach cobbler. Drinks include craft beer, specialty cocktails and of course whiskey. The frozen margarita, invented in Dallas circa 1971, remains a thirst-quencher to this day. Ready and rarin’ to go, it’s time for hotels in Dallas that are sure to inspire.
