Hotels in Toronto

Hotels in Toronto offer excellent accommodations in a destination nicknamed “Hogtown”. Known for its skyline, streetcars, parks, gardens, ravines, outdoor skating rinks, beaches, squares, museums, theaters, conference / event centers, shopping malls and sporting events, Toronto is located across Lake Ontario from Niagara Falls and Buffalo, New York. Lakeside, downtown Toronto is shielded largely by Centre Island. Surrounding / bordering the city, points of interest include Humber Bay Park West (lakeside, dog-friendly, picnic spot, shorebirds, bike / foot paths), Humber Bay Park East (lakeside, butterfly habitat, cycling trails, ponds), Humber Bay Arch Bridge (lakeside, Martin Goodman Trail, walkers / cyclists), Humber Bay Shores Park (lakeside, birdwatching, pathways, skyline views), Colonel Samuel Smith Park (lakeside, off-leash area, ice skating trail, bird watching, hiking), Marie Curtis Park (beach, splash pad, picnic spots, off-leash dog zone), Toronto Golf Club, Centennial Park Conservatory (greenhouse, 200+ tropical plant species, arid cacti section), Bubble Planet: An Immersive Experience (exhibit), Earl Bales Park (amphitheater, playgrounds, dog area, sports, sensory garden), Alexander Muir Memorial Garden (landscaped, colorful flowerbeds, footpaths), Sherwood Park (leafy, playground, wading pools, off-leash dog area, wooded boardwalks, trails), Toronto Botanical Garden, Comedy Bar Danforth (comedy club), Balmy Beach Park (lakefront, kayak rentals, volleyball, boardwalk trails, beach, gym equipment), Scarboro Crescent Park (lawned clifftop, lake views, playground, splash pad, 4 tennis courts) and Bluffer’s Park Beach. Within Toronto, main attractions are CN Tower, CF Toronto Eaton Centre (shopping mall), Nathan Phillips Square (year-round events, ice rink), Royal Ontario Museum, St. Lawrence Market, Scotiabank Arena, Rogers Centre (stadium), Casa Loma (castle museum), Toronto Sign (illuminated three-dimensional sign), High Park (hiking trails, zoo, sports fields, large children’s playground), The Distillery Historic District, Harbourfront Centre (cultural center), Yonge-Dundas Square (Sankofa Square) (outdoor event venue), Art Gallery of Ontario, Budweiser Stage (live music venue), Woodbine Beach (curved beach, swimming, volleyball, picnic areas), Metro Toronto Convention Centre, Union Station Toronto, Evergreen Brick Works (park, weekend farmers’ market, gardening store, event space, nature trails), Trinity Bellwoods Park (volleyball / tennis courts, outdoor skating rink, indoor recreation center), BMO Field (stadium), Hockey Hall of Fame, Danforth Music Hall (live music venue), Riverdale Farm, Riverdale Park East (tobogganing, skyline views, ice rink, sports fields), Toronto Music Garden (lakeside, summer concerts, seasonal tours) and Trillium Park (lakeside, running / bike trails, fire pit, downtown skyscrapers). Once the world’s, and presently the Western Hemisphere’s, tallest free-standing structure, Toronto’s iconic CN Tower tops out at 1,815 feet. Toronto’s main airport is Toronto Pearson International Airport, while its subway operator is the TTC (Toronto Transit Commission). Good to know is that Uber rideshare does operate in Toronto, with service encompassing the airport. Second in NHL trophies behind only their fellow Canadiens, the Toronto Maple Leafs have won 13 Stanley Cups. Both the Maple Leafs and the Toronto Raptors play downtown at Scotiabank Arena. Not far westward from Scotiabank Arena, Rogers Centre is home to MLB’s Toronto Blue Jays, winners of two World Series titles. When visiting Toronto, keep in mind that traffic can get congested, especially during rush hour. Naturally, roadways may be icy in winter. When taking public transportation, allow people to exit before entering. On sidewalks, escalators and corridors, keep to the right when standing or walking slowly. Purchasing event / sports tickets well in advance is recommended, while 15-20% is customary when tipping. In Toronto, currency is the Canadian Dollar, cars travel on the right-hand side and the drinking age is 19 years old. Toronto top events include Honda Indy Toronto, Canadian National Exhibition, Toronto Fashion Week, DesignTO, Toronto International Film Festival, Canadian Music Week, Beaches International Jazz Festival, Boots and Hearts Music Festival (Toronto-area), Toronto Festival of Beer, Wine Fest Toronto, Wakestock (wakeboarding festival), Luminato Festival, Toronto Biennial of Art, Toronto Outdoor Art Fair, Toronto International Festival of Authors, Toronto Caribbean Carnival, Salsa in Toronto Festival, Toronto Marathon, Toronto Comicon and Taboo Show. Hotels in Toronto are some of Canada’s best accommodations. Before we get to hotels in Toronto, let’s take a look at some more background information on the area to help you along the way.

Archaeological evidence suggests that humans have occupied the Toronto-area for thousands of years. Huron, Iroquois, and Ojibwe native tribes established the area at the entrance to one of the oldest northwesterly trade routes. The word “Toronto” gets its roots from an Iroquoian word that means “place where trees stand in the water”. Natives used tree saplings to help corral fish. Ganatsekwyagon and Teiaiagon, two Iroquois villages, were established in the area during the 1660s. The Iroquois, having abandoned Ganatsekwyagon and Teiaiagon at the end of the Beaver Wars, were replaced by the Mississauga at the turn of the 18th century. In 1750, French traders founded Fort Rouillé (present-day Exhibition Place). Like the Iroquois, however, the French abandoned the area in 1759 during the Seven Years’ War. After Britain defeated France circa 1763, the area became part of Britain’s Quebec colony. The Toronto Purchase, through which the Mississauga surrendered to the British Crown, secured more than a quarter-million acres of land for Britain during the American Revolutionary War. The area’s first town (in present-day Old Town) was named York in 1793 by Governor John Graves Simcoe. Following the War of 1812’s Battle of York, the United States briefly captured and plundered the town. The United State’s acts of arson and looting instilled a strong sense of Canadian nationalism that helped forge the nation. On March 6, 1834, York was incorporated as the City of Toronto, with Scottish Canadian-American journalist William Lyon Mackenzie becoming the city’s first mayor. In 1834, slavery was banned in Upper Canada, and Toronto absorbed some United States slaves. Irish Catholics resettled in Toronto as a consequence of the Great Irish Famine, and by 1851, Irish-born became the city’s largest single ethnic group. Smaller numbers of Orange Order Protestant Irish immigrants were welcomed by the Scottish and English. From 1850 to 1950, nearly every Toronto mayor was a member of the Orange Order, and the city was once referred to as “Belfast of Canada”. Twice briefly Toronto was the Province of Canada’s capital. During the 19th century, an extensive sewage system, gas street lights and long-distance railway lines were constructed. Toronto was North America’s largest alcohol distillation center in the latter-half of the 19th century, with Gooderham and Worts Distillery becoming the world’s largest whiskey factory by the 1860s. In 1891, electric streetcars replaced horse-drawn streetcars. A large section of downtown was destroyed during the 1904 Great Toronto Fire. The Toronto Transportation Commission, later renamed the Toronto Transit Commission, became publicly owned circa 1921. By 1934, the Toronto Stock Exchange had become Canada’s largest stock exchange. After World War II, a land boom ensued. Toronto experienced an influx of Chinese job-seekers and Italian / Portuguese construction laborers and, subsequently, immigrants from all over the world. In 1976, CN Tower was completed. Toronto surpassed Montreal as Canada’s most populous city by the 1980s.

Ontario’s capital and most populous city, Toronto is home to around 2.8 million “Torontonians”. Hogtown is also North America’s fourth-most populous city. The city’s nickname comes from its large meatpacking and livestock trading industry, which started in the late 19th century. Although over 160 languages are spoken in Toronto, English is the city’s primary language. Hogtown’s largest ethnic origin demographics are Europeans at around 48%, followed not far behind by Asians/Middle Easterners at about 40%. Business and finance are top economic contributors, with the Toronto Stock Exchange being the world’s 7th-largest stock exchange. The Toronto-area received around 43 million visitors in the year 2017. The largest ravine system of any world city, the Toronto ravine system, consisting of deep ravines and large urban forest, is spread out over 42 square miles. Accessible by ferry, Centre Island, a part of the Toronto Islands, is a fine place to take children and to view the city’s skyline. Additional points of interest include Downtown, Old Town, Exhibition Place, Scarborough Bluffs (sedimentary rock cliffs, beaches, trails, parks), Rouge National Urban Park (29 square mile urban park), Royal Alexandra Theatre, Four Seasons Centre for the Performing Arts, Roy Thomson Hall, Princess of Wales TheatreMassey Hall, Meridian Arts Centre, Elgin & Winter Garden Theatres, Meridian Hall, Ontario PlaceCoca-Cola Coliseum, Humber Bay Arch Bridge (pedestrian / bicycle through arch bridge), Toronto Islands (15 small island chain), James Gardens (botanical garden), University College and Woodbine Racetrack. Local foods include poutine (fries, cheese curds and gravy), peameal bacon sandwiches (cooked peameal bacon on a Kaiser roll topped with mustard / other toppings), smoked meats, salted codfish, sushi pizza, dim sum, tourtiere (French-Canadian meat pie), Montreal bagels (smaller, sweeter, wood-fired, larger holes), bannock (flatbread), donair (Turkish kebab), butter tarts (small pastries), maple cookies and BeaverTails (fried dough). Canada’s national drink is the Caesar, a type of bloody Mary, while the Toronto cocktail consists of Canadian whiskey, bitters, and sugar. Popular also are lager beer, and coffee / hot chocolate during wintertime. With some background information on the area, we’re ready for hotels in Toronto that will help make for an exciting trip.

  1. Nice article, I also would like to advice Oakville Ontario Hotels, If your looking for a hotel to lodge in during your visit then your in luck! That’s because this city features a large number of hotels and motels to choose from that are available in a wide range of prices. Remember though, as you make your selection that with so much to see and do there, you definitely won’t be spending too much time in your suite!

  2. Toronto is a wonderful city and I have connections there, from following professional sports teams to friends that I have known for years. There is always something to do there and the atmosphere is great every time I go. The one thing that I have not tried while there to now is staying in a penthouse!

That will change as I see that there are some really great places to stay and at a reasonable cost. The next stay there will be one of the options that you have mentioned. I likely will invite some of my friends to stay with me and we will make it a nice weekend filled with good food, fun, and exploring.

I took the liberty of checking on some prices for these places and most were surprisingly reasonable when using a group stay plan, as you mentioned. That is the way to enjoy the massive spaces that you get with a penthouse in any case, and if planned properly, can be a memorable experience. I love the ideas that I get coming to your website! Thanks…

  3. I am not sure what I was expecting from the best hotels in Toronto but I was certainly well educated. A review of Toronto and what it has to offer had me wanting to visit and take a look around.

When it comes to the hotels there was a lot more information than I was expecting with a good description of what was in the surrounding area, with the distances you need to travel to get to the sights mentioned.

An excellent review that can be used for visitors to help them decide where they would like to stay.

  4. Very interesting article, I have never been to Toronto although I have family there. When I see those hotel images I wish I go there immediately. Honestly, it is not so expensive but I have two small kids who are not yet ready to travel. Anyway, I will visit this city sooner or later, thank you for sharing these amazing hotels.

  5. I;m so glad I bumped into this review. I wanted to go to Toronto later this year hence, I’ve heard it snows there and the weather is the opposite than my locating. I really want a hotel with luxury and affordable.I once rented a room where there was no microwave, no coffee and the restroom was tiny; I hardly fit :/

    1. So sorry to hear about your previous travels Linda 🙁 You’ll never have to worry about spaciousness when choosing one of these locations, so at least there’s that.

  6. Great article. I am currently planning a road trip through Canada, so I found this very helpful. You are very thorough and informative in your reviews and I appreciate how you listed the tourist attractions nearby each hotel. The pictures make each of these look so amazing I want to go there! Thanks for sharing 🙂

  7. I like the fact that I am reading this right now. you really never know what expect in a place you have never been before. And I love the interior decor in the images. The hotels are so beautiful. I have a couple of friends in that city. it will be a great idea to plan a trip, to reconnect with friends and get a feel of the total ambiance of Ontario.

    Great post.

  8. I have stayed in quite a few hotels in my time, Greece, Fuerteventura, Spain but i have to admit these places look absolutely breathtaking, I’ve never stayed in a penthouse before but after seeing these I think it’s time I did.

I would simply love to visit Toronto and it certainly would be an unforgettable experience if I could stay in one of these places.

Visiting your website has given me some ideas and put me in the mood for getting away for a week or maybe two, I’m quite pleased that I came and read your website, thank you.

  9. Toronto Ontario is a beautiful place and have visited it several times and even walked past the 12 York Street 5707 and hadn’t realised how stunning it was inside and the view looks amazing

I might have to see if I can check in there next time I visit and it is in quite a central location to the places I normally go to when I’m there

Thanks for showing me inside some of the buildings that I have walked past a lot and thanks for giving me new ideas of where to stay in Toronto Ontario

  10. This is the first time me and my family we will be traveling to Toronto, Canada and as advised, we will be bringing with us a lot of cold-weather clothes. But in what I understand with hotels like these, they have heaters installed to keep their customers warm. Perhaps, instead of worrying about the freezing cold, our minds should be focused on how to best enjoy the place, the scenery and the relaxing view from the hotels.

  11. This looks like a trip worth paying for. I love that you included all the great hotels in torronto. Its good to go to a place that someone else reveiw as a nice get-away holiday vacation.

I’ll definitely be bookmarking this for later to show my husband. But overall great article and all the best to you.

  12. I have never stayed in a penthouse before and your article caught my eye because I went to Toronto last spring.  I have been thinking of returning to the city more often and I did not realize how affordable a penthouse could be if I traveled within a group.  It is an option I will now consider as the penthouses look beautiful and spacious and are near some areas of the city I am already familiar with.

  13. I looked forward to reading your Blog Post on luxury hotels in Toronto because when I landed in North America many years ago, this was my home town. When I visited the Toronto Dominion High Rises, the tower of the CN Tower was hoisted by Sikorsky helicopters for installation. I love this city.

So refreshing to see you include prices. I was amazed that a few of them were in the affordable price bracket. Great looking properties.

My favorite is with price not being an option is Thompson Toronto mainly for the fantastic vista of the Toronto Skyline. That must look even more spectacular at night. Naturally it was also the most expensive.

The one that is in my budget is The Luxury Sub Penthouse. The other would be the St. Regis.

Toronto has changed a lot since I lived there. The sports, entertainment and theatre venues have blossomed. I found it ironic to read that the acoustics of their “new” concert hall, The Roy Thompson Hall had to be fixe.

Thanks for sharing these great places to stay in for a visit to the great city of Toronto.

  14. Hi I have been to Toronto, but only for a few hours waiting for a connecting flight to Calgary. I would love to have stopped over for a few nights to explore. These places look amazing! I like the look of Grosvenor Street. I am planning a trip to Canada next year. Hopefully I will be able to stay there, just need to organise everyone first.

  15. 65 Bremner BLVD was my favorite on the list, and I was happy to see the cost-effective $73 per person as well. Not a bad price at all. I agree that even by judging the photo, the views are quite jaw-dropping, with the beauty of the Toronto skyline in the background. I would definitely be in love with this place early and often. Best yet, the Hockey Hall of Fame and Rodgers Centre is also nearby.

  16. Hi, I’ve never been to Toronto (or Canada), but even just the view from those hotels makes me want to visit there. Out of the accommodation options you introduced, I would probably go for Gorgeous View Penthouse, because it´s not too “over the top”. However, it has a gorgeous view as the name suggests.

  17. nice article! I am looking for a place near Air Canada though. I’ve never been to Toronto, but I would like know what are the residential places nearby, and what are the things you can do in the vicinity. I am planning to go there by next year, hopefully. 🙂 Anyway, thanks for sharing these information! Big big help! I thought it going to be that expensive there in Toronto.

  19. I honestly wasn’t too sure what to expect as I read this article. I, however, knew I will be wowed and I wasn’t disappointed. For now I am unable to afford any of these hotels but as I slowly build my business, I will own places like this. Thanks for an insightful article.

  20. Hello,

This was a really interesting read.

Toronto looks a great place to visit. I hadn’t realized there was so much to see there.

The hotels you recommend look amazing and the photos are great. I liked that you listed all the facilities that were on offer.

It was really useful you added the distances to different tourist attractions as this is very helpful if you are walking.

I think walking around a new city is a great way to get to know it.

The prices seem affordable as well particularly if you came with a group of friends.

    Thanks,

    Cameron

    1. Cameron thanks for saying and you’re welcome. It’s a fine city and these hotels in Toronto are well-suited to welcome you back from a day of walking.

  21. Hey nice article you have there, Every time I visit Hotel X Toronto, there is a new food/bev offering — from Maxx’s Kitchen and Falcon SkyBar to the Nespresso Café. I also had the pleasure of dining at some special events at the hotel and can tell you the dishes were beautifully presented, generous in portion size and delish! If you’re looking for a cocktail recipe, I  suggest the Falcon Goddess or The “X” Perience.

    1. Ed thanks for the insights into Hotel X Toronto, It’s a fine choice as far as hotels in Toronto go. Your reviews and recommendations are well-received.
